Retired Captain Michael (Mike) Cashaback passed away

Our condolences

It is with sadness that we share that Retired Captain Michael (Mike) Cashaback passed away on June 30, 2021.
Mike came on July 4, 1967 and retired on July 3, 1994 as a Captain.
Michael was born July 15, 1943 to Mike and Betty Cashaback in Littlehampton, England during World War II. A very young Michael and his mother Betty sailed by ship to Canada in 1944. Their final destination was a farm in Silverwood, Alberta where they joined Mike's family. At the age of 17, Michael joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. When he left the navy, Michael returned to Grimshaw, Alberta where he apprenticed as a carpenter with Tissington Industries, finishing his third year at NAIT. While working as a carpenter he dazzled a young French girl (Ghislaine) from Falher, Alberta. In 1967 the two were wed and lived in Edmonton. A week before the wedding he joined the Edmonton Fire Dept. He served his city with pride for 27 years. After his daughters were born, Mike built a house on an acreage north of Spruce Grove to raise his family and added his son Robert to the mix. Mike retired from the Edmonton Fire Department as a Captain in 1994.

Michael will be forever cherished by his wife; Ghislaine, children; Monique (Andrew), Jan (Ed) and Robert (Rachelle), his grandchildren; Joshua, Shelby (Ty) and Nicholas, his great-granddaughter; Wynnie, his sisters; Ozann, Gail (Rene), and Debbie (Gordon), his nieces and nephews; Michelle, Shawn, Todd, Jody, Sheryle, Steve, Patty, Mathew, Mackenzie, Robyn, Janice and his beloved dog; Oscar.

Michael will be remembered for his love of researching, crossword puzzles, playing cribbage with everyone who would play, and his endless stories which were told with a smile; about his Navy experiences, Tissington Industries and his Fire Department days. If attending Weddings with him, you would remember his jaunty jive.

Michael was a skilled craftsman who created some beautiful works for the family over the years, from the custom box for his outboard motor to dog houses, to sheds and garages. He also Showed his artistic flourish with two customized pool cue cases, etchings of our family crest, a beautiful chest, a crib for baby Shelby, and a change table for baby Nicholas, to name a few.
