PASSING OF RETIRED DISTRICT CHIEF RICHARD (PETE) BENNETT

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022 Richard Habib William Bennett, affectionately known as Pete, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away at the age of 84 years.

 He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Verna; sons: Perry (Darcie), Cameron (Michele) and Gordon (Wendy); grandchildren: Tess (Markus), Patrick (Celine), Tylor (Jessica), David, Stephanie, Meghan (Matt), Amanda, Samantha, Laura (Paul), and Jacob; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Hilliard (Judy); brother-in-law, Bill Grace; as well as numerous relatives and friends. He will also be dearly missed by his friends in the Vital Grandin congregation.

 He was predeceased by his sister, Janice; and his parents, Gladys and Alfred.

 Richard was born on October 5, 1937 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and dubbed Peter Rabbit by his, then, three year old sister, Janice. He was called Pete for the rest of his life. Pete moved to Edmonton in the mid 1940’s with his family, and met the love of his life, Verna, while attending St. Joseph’s High School. Pete and Verna were married in 1959, and started their family soon after. Pete became a firefighter for the Edmonton Fire Department on July 15, 1963, and served there until retiring on July 16, 1997.

 A traditional Latin Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, July 15th, 2022 at Assumption Catholic Church, 9034 – 95 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
