How to get involved with the Edmonton Firefighters Pipe and Drums Society

Membership may be attained by a current, past, or retired member of the Edmonton Firefighters’ Union Local 209 by making an oral or written request for membership to any member of the Band Executive. We currently have new members start at the beginning of the year in January, especially if you're new to playing the Bagpipes or Drums. However, if you already play, exceptions may be made. The Edmonton Firefighters Pipes and Drums requires a certain level of commitment. Members are expected to attend practices regularly as well as any fundraising events or performances. Practices are once a week. We typically have 2 fundraisers a year. Performances are currently set around 30 per year. As a member of the Edmonton Firefighters Pipes and Drums, you are representing I.A.F.F Local 209, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services and the City of Edmonton.

Starting from scratch? never played before? It can take up to 5 yrs before one is proficient enough to play a dozen tunes and march to them in a band. Alot of time and commitment is required at home for self practice on both the bagpipes and drums. Including the time required to practice as a band.
